EmlynEmlyn Harewood, a resident of Barataria Trinidad, WI started playing pan at age 15 with Steel Stylers. In those early years he also played with San Juan All Stars, Starland and Invaders. In 1964 he toured London, England with “Trinidad and Tobago Steel Band” as a member of the National Steel Band which toured the Caribbean and performed at Expo 1967 in Montreal Canada. Emlyn migrated to Washington, DC in 1968 playing with Trinidad and Tobago Steel Band of Washington, DC. He was instrumental in the formation of Steel Unlimited, touring the continental USA while performing at State Fairs. He migrated to Montreal Canada where he played with the Mello Tones Steel Band. He returned to Trinidad in 1981 and played with Potential Steel Orchestra and in 1983 rejoined Invaders where he became co-manager of the band. Emlyn returned to Washington, DC in 1992 and performed with the Pan Masters, TnT Steel band, and other area based Steel orchestras, including doing several solo engagements. After playing with the Trini Pan-America Steel Band in 2002-2003, Emlyn formed the DC Pan Jammers in May 2003 in the capacity of Manager/Leader. He returns to Trinidad annually to assist the Northern Region of Pan Trinbago with its Carnival events. He was honored by the governing Body of Pan Trinbago in 2006 and became a member of the August group of “Pan Guards” in a gala ceremony held that year.
